Squires Ties for 15th at Mason Rudolph Championship

Austin Squires carded a final-round 4-under par 67 Sunday to tie for 15th place at 3-under 73-70-67=210 at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn.

University of Cincinnati senior Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) carded a final-round 4-under par 67 Sunday to tie for 15th place at 3-under 73-70-67=210 at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn.

Squires posted five birdies during the round, including three of his first six holes. He recorded only one bogie with 12 par scores Sunday. It marked his ninth Top 20 finish in as many events in 2018-19.  

Sophomore Nicolas Osterburg (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian High School) improved five spots after posting an even par 71 Sunday, finishing the event tied for 32nd at 1-over 73-70-71=214. His final round included three birdies, a bogey, a double bogey and 13 par scores. 

As a team, UC matched its best round of the spring season, posting a 2-under 282 Sunday to finish 13th at 11-over 294-287-282=863. Squires and Osterburg weren't the only Bearcats who improved their position in the individual standings. In fact, all five Bearcats climbed the chart Sunday. 

Redshirt sophomore Andy Mayhew (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood High School) advanced 10 spots, tying for 42nd place at 3-over 73-72-71=216. Redshirt freshman Mason Lenhart (Prospect, Ky./North Oldham High School) moved up eight slots, tying for 69th place at 10-over 75-75-73=223. Freshman Clay Amlung (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier High School) climbed three spots to finish tied for 84th at 15-over 77-78-73=228. 

Western Kentucky's Billy Tom Sargent claimed individual medalist honors at 12-under 69-65-67=201.

Tournament host Vanderbilt won the event, posting a 29-under 284-269-270=823.

"Today was a big improvement. In adverse conditions we put together a very solid round of golf. Hoping this is the round that gets us over the hump. The key today was that we did the simple things well and avoided any real big mistakes. We will continue to challenge the team as we have a quick turnaround going to Purdue."
