CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati senior golfer Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) was named a unanimous all-conference team selection by American Athletic Conference coaches Wednesday.
Squires becomes the only three-time all-conference performer in school history. He last earned unanimous selection to the league's all-conference team in 2016-17 while earning AAC Player of the Year honors.
Expected to receive an invitation to compete in the NCAA Men's Golf Championship as an individual when selections are announce Wednesday beginning at 9 p.m. ET on the Golf Channel website, Squires never finished outside the Top 16 in any of Cincinnati's 11 tournaments during 2018-19, recording four Top 5 results. He enters May ranked 55th among the top college players in the nation according to GolfStat. He has registered par or better scores in 19 of his 31 rounds while posting a school-record 70.55 stroke average this season.
Squires finished second at the AAC Championship on April 23, carding a season-best 7-under par 206. His other Top 5 finishes include a tie for third place at both the Rod Myers Invitational (5-under 211) on Sept. 9 and the Seminole Intercollegiate (6-under 210) on Feb. 24 and a fifth-place result at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular (5-under 211) on March 17.
