CINCINNATI - The latest NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) released today by the national governing body shows the student-athletes at the University of Cincinnati continue to excel as the Bearcats have one again scored a school-record multi-year rate with a score of 990, up two points from last year's record. It marks the third year in a row UC has posted a record mark after scoring 986 for the 2015-16 period and 988 for last year's 2016-17 release.

Additionally, the 989 single-year (2017-18) score is the third-best in department history behind only the 995 tallied in 2015-16 and the 993 accumulated last year. To reach the 989 single-year mark, nine of the UC's athletic programs recorded perfect 1,000 scores. The programs include men's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, lacrosse, women's soccer, tennis and volleyball.

In fact, four of those teams earned NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards for the 2017-18 reporting period by ranking among the Top 10 percent of all teams in their respective sports. Those teams include tennis (sixth year in a row), volleyball (third year in a row), men's cross country (first award) and men's golf (first award). Tennis, led by head coach Eric Toth, currently leads all Bearcats programs with six public recognitions all-time while women's cross country, men's track & field and volleyball each have earned three.

According to the latest data in the this four-year cycle (2014-15 through 2017-18), men's cross country, men's golf and volleyball all have scored perfect 1,000 single-year scores all four years. Four other teams, including baseball, women's cross country, women's golf and women's soccer, have tallied 1,000 single-year scores three times in that span.

Four teams improved their scores from the previous release (2016-17), including women's cross country, who jumped 24 points. The three other teams with improvements include men's basketball (+22), lacrosse (+21) and men's track & field (+9).

Implemented in 2003 as part of an ambitious academic reform effort in NCAA Division I, APR holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term.
