MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Cincinnati baseball lost Saturday evening at Memphis by a score of 11-4 to force a rubber match in the series finale on Sunday.
The first few innings saw the lead go back-and-forth until a five-run fourth captured the victory for the Tigers.

• UC sits at 23-27 overall and 12-11 in American Athletic Conference play
• Memphis is now 26-23 and 9-10

• The Bearcats' extra-base hits came via a Griffin Merritt solo homerun and double by Eric Santiago and Joey Wiemer

• For the third-straight game the Bearcats scored in the top of the first. Santiago started it with a double to right center, Joey Bellini has a base hit and Stapp grounded into a double play, but it allowed a run to come home
Bottom of the 2nd
• The Tigers were able to tie the game during the next inning when the bases were loaded on a single and two walks and another walk allowed a run to score
Bottom of the 3rd
• Memphis took its first lead of the weekend on a walk, wild pitch, stolen base and a ground out in the third
Top of the 4th
• However, that Memphis lead was short-lived as a two-run inning put UC back in front. Stapp led off with a single before Wiemer doubled to put two in scoring position. A groundout by Bumpass sent Stapp home and Wiemer to third. A wild pitch gave the Bearcats the 3-2 lead
Bottom of the 4th
• A big five-run inning put the Tigers up by four. A single and two walks loaded the bases before another base on balls tied the game. Another walk, a wild pitch and a two-run double allowed the other runs to come home
Bottom of the 5th
• The Tigers added two to their lead on a double, triple and steal of home when a throw was made to second to attempt to get the runner stealing there
Top of the 6th
• UC was able to get one run back when Merritt blasted a no-doubt homerun to left field
Bottom of the 7th
• Memphis got the run back after two walks and a double
Bottom of the 8th
• The final run of the game came when the Tigers led off with a double, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a balk
