CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati baseball lost the series-opener against Xavier Thursday night in the final game to be played at Marge Schott Stadium this season by a score of 11-2.
 
// NOTABLES
• UC is now 25-28 on the season and XU is 24-28
• The game entered a two-hour rain delay at the end of the sixth inning
Wyatt Stapp was 2-for-3 in the game with a RBI, a walk and a run scored
Joey Bellini finished 2-for-4 with a double and run scored
A.J. Bumpass also went 2-for-4 at the plate
Drake Batcho suffered the loss in the start
Nick Murray went 4.0 innings in relief with one run on three hits, no walks and five strikeouts
Brennan Dolwick pitched 2.0 frames following the delay
• Cal Jarret, who has not thrown in a game since 2017 due to injury, entered the game in the ninth and gave up a single and a walk before striking out the next three batters he faced
 
// KEY INNINGS
Top of the 1st
Xavier got off to a big start with a four-run first. A triple and singled started the scoring. After a hit by pitch, a three-run homerun sent everyone home
Top of the 2nd
• Four more runs were scored in the top of the second inning, starting with a single, double and a two-RBI base hit. Two wild pitches and a walk put runners in scoring position, which allowed two more runs to come home on another single
Top of the 3rd
• A pair of doubles made it 9-0 through three frames
Bottom of the 4th
• The Bearcats broke through when Bellini doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Stapp single. Stapp was able to score later from third base when Griffin Merritt grounded out
Top of the 7th
• After a two hour rain delay, the Musketeers tacked two on with a pair of solo homeruns
 
// UP NEXT
• On Friday the two teams will play with free admission, parking and concessions at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio, starting at 7 p.m.
• The regular-season finale will be held at Great American Ball Park on Saturday night after the Reds take on the Dodgers
