CLEARWATER, Fla. ­– University of Cincinnati baseball posted an 8-4 victory over No. 3 Tulane Thursday night to advance to the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament.
 
The No. 2 seed Bearcats entered the winners' bracket with an 11-6 win against No. 7 Memphis on Tuesday night and remain one of two teams going 2-0 so far in the event after the win versus the Green Wave. UC will play the winner of the No. 3 Tulane/No. 6 UCF game set for 7 p.m. on Friday. The winner of that matchup will face the Bearcats on Saturday 47 minutes after the completion of the 10 a.m. semifinal game.

• UC improves to 28-29 this season while Tulane falls to 32-35
• A.J. Bumpass continued his big week, going 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI and run scored. He is now 6-for-7 with two walks in tournament play
• Wyatt Stapp went 3-for-4 with two RBI and run scored
• Mitch Holding had a no-doubt homerun and led the team with three RBI in the game
• Joey Wiemer and Joey Bellini added in doubles
• Clayton Colvin went 4.0 innings in the start to keep the tough Tulane bats at bay
• Nathan Moore picked up the win with 2.2 innings of relief with one hit, two walks and two strikeouts
• Korren Thompson had the longest outing of his Bearcats' career, throwing the final 2.1 frames for his eleventh save. He gave up two hits and two walks but had two big strikeouts

Top of the 2nd

• A leadoff walk came in to score after a stolen base and single to get Tulane on the board first
Bottom of the 2nd
• UC quickly answered with Wiemer doubled and scored on a Bumpass base hit
Bottom of the 3rd
• A big three-run third put the Bearcats ahead. Eric Santiago walked, moved to second on a passed ball, advanced again on a fly out and scored when Stapp singled. After Wiemer reached on a fielder's choice, Holding absolutely crushed a ball out to left field to make it a 4-1 lead
Bottom of the 4th
• The Bearcats posted another three-run inning to keep the momentum going. Bumpass singled and Cole Murphy walked before Bellini cleared the bases with a double. Stapp then earned another RBI on a base hit
Top of the 5th
• The Green Wave worked to get a three-run frame of their own in the fifth. A single and two walks loaded the bases with no outs. After Mercer tracked down a ball well into foul territory for the first out, a fielder's choice error allowed the first run of the inning to come home. A hit batter and sacrifice fly scored the other two
Bottom of the 7th
• The Bearcats got one run back in the seventh, the final tally of the game. Stapp singled and remained on base in a fielder's choice because of an error. He scored on a groundout by Holding
