// ABOUT THE AMERICAN
The American is the only major conference in the country to return all of its individual on-court award winners from the 2018-19 season. The 2019-20 top-returners include Player of the Year Jarron Cumberland (Cincinnati), Freshman of the Year Alexis Yetna (USF), Defensive Player of the Year Laquincy Rideau (USF), Sixth Man of the Year DeJon Jarreau (Houston) and Most Improved Players of the Year Josh Carlton (UConn) and Nate Pierre-Louis (Temple).

Three new head coaches join the fold in 2019-20 as Cincinnati's John Brannen, Temple's Aaron McKie and Tulane's Ron Hunter join an existing group of highly decorated conference coaches.

With seven postseason teams in 2018-19, The American set a high-water mark in playoff teams. Four programs- UCF, Cincinnati, Houston and Temple- were selected to the NCAA Championship which tied a conference high set in 2014 and matched in 2016. Houston advanced to the Sweet 16. Memphis and Wichita State were selected to the NIT with the Shockers making the Final Four at Madison Square Garden. USF was selected to the CBI and went on to win the championship series against DePaul.

// ABOUT THE BEARCATS
Under the new direction of head coach John Brannen, Cincinnati's 2019-20 squad features three returning starters in 2019 AAC Player of the Year senior guard Jarron Cumberland, redshirt senior forward Trevon Scott and junior guard Keith Williams. The Bearcats have won back-to-back AAC Tournament championships, own an AAC-best 86 league wins since the conference was formed in 2013-14 and have appeared in the NCAA Tournament each of the last nine seasons. Cincinnati's 89 wins over the past three seasons are tied for third most in the nation.
