CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced Thursday the top-25 team grade point averages (GPA) nationally for the 2018-19 academic year, with University of Cincinnati women's golf checking in at No. 15 with a 3.728 cumulative GPA.
Ranked among the country's top-15 teams, academically, for the third-consecutive year, the Bearcats also recently had six student-athletes named WGCA All-American Scholars for the 2018-19 academic year: Alyssa Burritt (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook), Anika Hitt (Mequon, Wisc./Homestead), Angela Lopez (Bogotá, Colombia), Vanessa Manrique (Bogotá, Colombia), Daniela Murcia (Bogotá, Colombia), and Lily Rinker (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy). In addition, the entire team earned 2018-19 American Athletic Conference (AAC) All-Academic honors, with the Bearcats boasting a conference-best 320 selections departmentwide.
"This is the third year in a row that our team has been in the top 20 in the country for team GPA," said head coach Janet Carl. "This is a testament to the commitment of the student-athletes to their academics while playing a sport in which they compete in both the fall and spring. We have the best student-athlete support services that help us succeed every day. The team could not achieve this honor without their support. We are so proud of the team and their efforts in the classroom."
The Bearcats were one of two AAC teams to make the WGCA top 25, with ECU coming in at No. 10 with a 3.770 GPA. New Mexico topped the overall NCAA Division I list with a 3.903.
Previously, UC ranked seventh nationally in 2017-18 and ninth in 2016-17.
The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
