CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men's golf team earned high praise from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) this week receiving President's Special Recognition honors as one of 17 Division I teams in the nation to achieve a 3.5 grade point average or better during the 2018-19 academic year.
It marked the second consecutive year the GCAA honored Cincinnati's program.
The Bearcats were one of only two American Athletic Conference schools on the list along with league rival SMU. UC and Youngstown State were the only two Ohio schools recognized.
For the year, the UC men's golf team posted a 3.51 GPA with eight of its 10 players earning Bearcats Academic Honor Roll status (3.0 GPA or better) and Dean's List distinction (3.4 GPA or better) during the spring semester. UC rising sophomore Sam Jean tallied a 4.0 GPA during the spring semester.
All 10 Bearcats on the 2018-19 roster were named to the AAC's All-Academic Team in June, honoring student-athletes who achieved a 3.0 GPA or better during both the fall and spring semesters.
Earlier this month, outgoing senior Austin Squires was named the AAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's golf. He finished his studies with a 3.89 cumulative GPA, earning UC Dean's List honors every semester of his college career.
