CINCINNATI - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) today announced its annual academic awards with the University of Cincinnati lacrosse program well represented once again. This year, the Bearcats team was selected to the IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad while five members of the program, including Monica Borzillo, Amanda Donovan, Adrianna Fess, Alexandra Fess and Jayde Sains, were selected to the IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll.
The five individual Bearcats were among the 501 student-athletes from 99 different schools to be honored in NCAA Division I this year. Donovan and Sains, who recently finished their collegiate careers in May, earned the academic distinction for the second year in a row while Borzillo and both Fesses earned their first selection. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher.
On the team side of things, the Bearcats were one of 312 schools to be recognized across all of collegiate lacrosse that includes schools in NCAA Division I, II and III as well as NAIA. This year, the Bearcats not only broke numerous records on the field, but also did so in the classroom as they posted a record 3.610 GPA during the season, a mark that also led the all teams in the American Athletic Conference. For a team to be recognized for the IWLCA honors, the entire team must sport a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better for the academic year.
