University of Cincinnati's Jordan Thompson was the top scorer for the U.S. Women's National Team Tokyo Women's Volleyball Qualification Tournament this past weekend in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Thompson, a rookie with Team USA and a permanent fixture on the 14-player travel roster all summer, shined in every match to help the US earn a spot in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. She totaled 42 points in the three matches, playing in eight of eleven sets.
In the opener on Friday against Kazakhstan, Thompson started the third set and earned five kills on seven attacks while adding in a block. During the team's tough five-set battle with Bulgaria in Saturday, Thompson was a big part of the comeback victory. Thompson started the final four sets of the match and finished with 18 kills and a block.
Thompson put on her best performance in the Olympics-clinching contest on Sunday, starting the match. Her match-high 16 points on 13 kills, two aces and a block led the US to a sweep of Argentina. The final five points of the match came from the US with Thompson contributing two kills and an ace.

U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly after Saturday's match:
"It took a while for us to get going. But Jordan Thompson came in and gave us a lift."
Jordan Larson on the team's bench support in the match versus Bulgaria:
"It was fantastic. Jordan Thompson, she is still in college, but she has some guts. I am really proud of her."
Thompson after Sunday's match:
"I just think it is really exciting to be a part of it. I know that, even when I am on the bench, I am just as much part of it as those on the court. We always say that we are 14 players strong, and we really mean that. When Annie [Drews] is on the bench or when I am on the bench, we are always being really good eyes for the other person."
Thompson on returning to UC this fall:
"This experience is only going to help me going back to college and adjusting back to the level of play in college. I am going to hopefully help my teammates and share what I have learned this summer."
