CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati men's basketball head coach John Brannen threw out the first pitch Sunday prior to the Reds-Cubs game at Great American Ball Park.

It was a big day for the lifelong Reds fan from Alexandria, Ky., who attended Newport Central Catholic High School just across the Ohio River from the home park of the Reds.

Prior to the game, Brannen spoke briefly with Reds manager David Bell and Chicago Cubs infielder and former Bearcat Ian Happ. Brannen later was interviewed by Jim Day for the FOX Sports Ohio broadcast and spent an inning in the 700 WLW radio booth with Hall of Famer Marty Brennaman and Jeff Brantley.

Brannen also presented Brennaman with a No. 46 Bearcats basketball jersey, saluting the longtime radio broadcaster for his 46 years of outstanding contributions to both the Reds and Greater Cincinnati community.
