CINCINNATI – A pair of University of Cincinnati men's golfers compete in the U.S. Amateur beginning Monday, Aug. 12 at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C. 

Rising junior Clay Amlung (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier HS) and outgoing senior Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle HS) are among the 312-player field taking part in the seven-day event. 

The two-day stroke play portion of the tournament starts Monday. Amlung and Squires both tee off at 1:11 p.m. ET. Amlung will play Course No. 2 while Squires will play Course No. 4. 

Coverage of stroke play will be televised Monday and Tuesday on FS1 from 4-7 p.m. ET. 

The top 64 finishers in the stroke play event will advance to the five-day match play portion of the event.  

Amlung claimed his qualifying card on July 16 at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati. He birdied the first hole of a playoff to grab the final invite. 

Squires earned one of 67 exemptions into the championship after advancing to the match-play quarterfinals of the 2018 U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links. It marked the best finish by a Bearcat at the event in school history.
