CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati men's soccer will begin its 2019 regular season on Friday, August 30, when it welcomes Mercer to Gettler Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Admission to the match is free as part of the season-long Experience UC initiative.

All home regular season matches in 2019 will, once again, be streamed live on GoBearcats.com and will all be free. The link to the stream can be found on the men's soccer schedule page. On the same page, links to live statistics can also be found.
// EXPERIENCE UC
Again this season, the Bearcats will be participating in the University's Experience UC initiative that offers free admission (no ticket required) to regular season, home events for select sports. Enjoy free admission to cross country, lacrosse, volleyball, women's tennis, men's and women's soccer, swimming and diving, and track and field home events. Football, men's and women's basketball, and baseball home events will be ticketed.
Experience UC is a community outreach effort that offers the opportunity for sports fans to witness the seismic changes transpiring on our incredible campus. We are proud to open our doors to fans of all ages. The Bearcats are competing to be the class of the league and we invite people to be a part of an unprecedented time in Clifton.
A number of behind-the-scenes experiences geared towards groups are available before most men's soccer matches. Mercer was recently tabbed the preseason favorite to win the Southern Conference. 2018 SoCon Player of the Year and 2019 Preseason All-American Trevor Martineau was one of three Bears on the league's preseason XI. The Bears are led by reigning SoCon Coach of the Year Brad Ruzzo who is a 1999 graduate of UC and was a 1998 All-Conference USA second team selection for the Bearcats.

Friday will be the first all-time meeting between the two teams.

Cincinnati is 23-17-5 all-time in season openers. Moreover, the Bearcats are 11-4-3 in 18 season openers under head coach Hylton Dayes and are unbeaten in eight of the last 10 lid-lifters. A 1-0 overtime loss to Northern Illinois last season snapped a four-match unbeaten streak in season debuts.

Head coach Hylton Dayes enters his 19th season at the helm of the program in 2018. The dean of UC's varsity coaches and the all-time winningest coach in Bearcats men's soccer history, Dayes has won 135 matches in Clifton, reaching the NCAA Tournament twice (2003 & 2006). In 29 seasons as a collegiate head coach, including time as both the men's and women's head coach at Wright State, Dayes has registered 232 wins.

The Red & Black's 2019 squad features 10 newcomers, as well as a strong returning core highlighted by senior forward Rex Epps (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork/Army West Point) who scored a team-best three goals in 11 games last year and junior goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md./Sacred Heart) who pitched a pair of shutouts a season ago.

The Bearcats opened the preseason at Gettler Stadium on Aug. 17 against nationally-ranked Michigan and came up short 2-1. Sophomore midfielder Will Lonneman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) put UC on the board with a goal during the 68th minute. The Red & Black closed the preseason at projected Atlantic Sun favorite Lipscomb on Aug. 24 with a 1-1 draw. Newcomer Shevon Stewart (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George's College/Daytona State) put UC up 1-0 in the 47th minute off of feeds from freshmen Sam Robinson (Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda) and Ben Hegge (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller).
