// SCOUTING THE GREAT DANES
The Great Danes were selected sixth in the preseason America East coaches' poll. Sophomores Hafliði Sigurðarson and Sam Philip return to the Great Danes after having strong rookie seasons. Both were named to the America East All-Rookie Team in 2018. Albany came up short in a 3-2 battle at Kentucky in its season opener on Friday. Alex Bourgeois and Austin DaSilva added goals in the loss.
// ALBANY SERIES
Friday will be the first all-time meeting between the two teams.
// LAST TIME OUT
UC (0-1) battled but came up short, 2-0, to Mercer (1-0) on Friday night in the regular season opener at Gettler Stadium. Following an early Bears go-ahead goal in the 10th minute, the Bearcats pressed hard throughout the match in search of the equalizer. After recording three shots on goal, to no avail, in the opening half, UC continued to forge ahead in the second period with multiple advances on offense.
The Red & Black's best chance to tie the match came with just minutes to play when Epps got behind the defense and collected a feed from senior defender Donovan Segree (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Daytona State) deep in the box and pushed the ball just wide of the net in the 87th minute. Mercer quickly answered with a score minutes later to put the game out of reach for UC.
// BEARCATS BYTES
The Red & Black's 2019 squad features 10 newcomers, as well as a strong returning core highlighted by Epps who scored a team-best three goals in 11 games last year and junior goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md./Sacred Heart) who pitched a pair of shutouts a season ago.
