// SCOUTING THE MUSKETEERS
XU (2-0) kicked off the season with a 2-0 home win over No. 2 Akron on Aug. 31. The Musketeers continued on with a 3-0 victory against Eastern Illinois at the XU Soccer Complex on Sept. 2. XU is now ranked 10th in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll and 14th in the United Soccer Coaches poll. Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Samson Sergi leads the Musketeers with three goals. Goalkeeper Matthew Rosenberg has pitched a pair of shutouts, including seven saves.
// XAVIER SERIES
The Bearcats lead the all-time series, 25-14-6 and are 14-6-4 in matches played at UC. In the last meeting on the Cincinnati campus, the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in front of a record crowd at Gettler Stadium. Last season, the Red & Black dropped a 3-1 decision at XU in wet and rainy conditions.
// LAST TIME OUT
UC (1-1) defeated Albany, 2-1, on Monday night at Gettler Stadium. A score from junior forward Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) during the 67th minute proved to be the game winner. After a scoreless first half, the visiting Great Danes broke the tie early in the second period with a goal in the 49th minute to go up 1-0. Junior newcomer Creggton Charlton (Clarendon, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Daytona State) answered for UC minutes later with a goal to even the match up at 1 with 30 minutes left to play in regulation. The Bearcats kept the momentum going at the 67th minute mark when senior Donovan Segree (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Daytona State), on a free kick, sent a perfect ball into the box where Commissiong was waiting to head the ball home and ultimately ice the match. Goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Sacred Heart) recorded a season-high six saves to bring his total to nine on the year.
