DAYTON, Ohio – In its first road game of the 2019 regular season, University of Cincinnati men's soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to Wright State on Tuesday night at Alumni Field.
With the loss, the Bearcats dropped to 1-3 on the young season, while the Raiders – the preseason pick to win the Horizon League – moved to 2-2 on the year.
After an even opening 30 minutes, WSU, in its regular season home debut, collected a goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Sacred Heart) deflection and deposited the ball into the back of the net to go up 1-0. As such, the Red & Black went into halftime down a goal.
The Bearcats were aggressive in the following period in search of the equalizer, registering five shots on goal in the first 30 minutes of the second half. With the offense unable to cash in, UC was dealt a crushing blow late when Lawrence was issued a red card which the Raiders turned into a penalty-kick conversion to put the match away, 2-0.
The Red & Black totaled 17 shots on the night – with 12 coming in the second half – including nine on target. Junior Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) led the way with five shots, including a match-tying attempt that bounced off the crossbar. Junior Creggton Charlton (Clarendon, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Daytona State) notched three shots with all coming on goal. Lawrence saved four shots in total.
