KALAMAZOO, Mich. – University of Cincinnati men's soccer fell, 5-1, to Western Michigan on Saturday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex.

With the setback, the Bearcats drop to 1-4 in 2019, while the Broncos – the preseason runner-up selection in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) – improved to 3-2 on the season.

An early penalty-kick conversion by WMU set the tone for a tough first half for the Red & Black who went into the locker room facing a 4-0 deficit. After an even opening 20 minutes of the second half, the Bearcats gave up another score to fall behind 5-0 in the 68th minute. UC did manage to get something going late when junior Creggton Charlton (Clarendon, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Daytona State) deposited a goal into the back of the net during the 85th minute to bring the score to 5-1, Broncos, at the final horn.

The Red & Black registered seven shots on the day with Charlton and freshman Sam Robinson (Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda) leading the way with two apiece, including one on target for each. With usual goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Sacred Heart) out this game due to a red card issued last match, Ben Pelz (Birresborn, Germany/St. Mattias Gymnasium/Middle Georgia State) and Tyler Glasenapp (Medina, Ohio/Medina) split time between the pipes and combined for four saves.
