CINCINNATI - Following another scoreless draw that accompanied four saves in goal, Madison Less has been selected for a weekly honor by the American Athletic Conference for the second week in a row, this time as a member of the Honor Roll, the league announced today. Less, who has not allowed a goal in nearly 268 minutes heading into league play, continues to climb the school's all-time shutouts ledger with 11 to her credit.
// MAKING SAVES
Saturday, Less was called upon to make four saves as the Bearcats played visiting Austin Peay to a 0-0 draw. With the clean sheet, the Bearcats not have not allowed a goal in the past 267:50 of play, it also gave Less her 11th career shutout, moving her into a tie for seventh on the program's all-time Top 10. In fact, the last time the Bearcats played back-to-back scoreless draws came the middle of the 1983 season (vs. Springfield & vs. UConn at the Tournament of Champions in Courtland, N.Y.) with Julie Williams (1982-84) in goal. Williams, along with Julie McCaffrey (1994-95) are each tied with Less with 11 career shutouts.
With her selection this week, Less, a two-time goalkeeper of the week this year, has now been named to the Honor Roll for fifth time in her career and the first time since October 8, 2018. In fact, she is now just the second UC player in the AAC era to earn Honor Roll accolades at least one in three-consecutive years, joining Danielle Rotheram (1 in 2013, 1 in 2014 and 2 in 2015) in that group.
// RUNNING TOTALS
With the one selection this week, UC has garnered five awards from the AAC in 2019. Less has twice been named the goalkeeper of the week to go along with her Honor Roll award this week while Han Tang (9/16) and Vanessa DiNardo (8/26) were earlier selections to the Honor Roll this season. Overall, since the start of the 2013 season (the first year of AAC play), Less is one of 19 different players to be selected to the weekly honor roll with this week's accolade standing as the 43rd achieved in that time.
