TicketsUniversity of Cincinnati junior Clay Amlung (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier HS) and sophomore teammate Mason Lenhart (Prospect, Ky./North Oldham HS) each finished in the top 10 Monday after 36 holes of the Old Town Collegiate Invitational at the Old Town Club in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Amlung finds himself tied for sixth place after carding a 7-under 66-67=133 while Lenhart is two strokes back, tied for eighth after a 5-under 66-69=135 performance.
Amlung's effort Monday featured eight birdies, an eagle and only three bogies during his 36 holes. His 4-under 66 morning round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole and birdies on holes three, six, 13 and 17. During his 3-under 67 round in the afternoon, Amlung made four birdies and went bogey free on 17 of the 18 holes.
Like Amlung, Lenhart posted par or better scores on 33 of 36 holes on the day. Lenhart went bogey free in the morning with four birdies as part of a 4-under 66 showing. He played a solid afternoon round as well with four additional birdies. His only struggles came during a 4-hole stretch from holes seven through 10 where he took three bogies.
The UC duo trails tournament leader Marco Steyn of Wake Forest, who carded an 11-under 66-63=129.
As a team, the Bearcats are tied with East Carolina for fifth place at 8-under 271-281=552. Washington leads the 13-team event at 23-under 272-265=537.
Other UC results include sophomore Sam Jean (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) tying for 29th place at even par 68-72=140. Junior Nicolas Osterburg (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian HS) is tied for 54th position at 4-over 71-73=144. Redshirt freshman Jack Kunkel (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview HS) completed the day tied for 71st place at 9-over 73-76=149.
