// LAST TIME OUT
UC fell 3-1 to the visiting Memphis Tigers in a hard-fought American Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday night at Gettler Stadium.
The Bearcats fell behind early in the 16th minute when U of M got behind the UC defense for a score. Unable to cash in the equalizer before halftime and facing a 1-0 deficit to begin the second period, the Red & Black were dealt an unfortunate blow early in the half when they were whistled for a foul inside the box which the Tigers converted into a penalty-kick score during the 55th minute.
With UC chasing the game with about 35 minutes left in regulation, Memphis added on with a goal in the 59th minute to go up 3-0. The home team showed resiliency, getting within two scores on junior midfielder Shevon Stewart's (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George's College/Daytona State) second goal of the season – a tally off of feeds from Mason Volker (St. Leon, Ind./East Central) and Aerin West (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) during the 61st minute to reduce the deficit to 3-1
The Bearcats tried to get back in the match late, but were unable to capitalize on any offensive advances, ultimately dropping the league contest to the streaking Tigers.
// SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
Purdue Fort Wayne (3-6-0, 0-1-0 Summit) dropped its conference opener on Saturday with a 6-0 setback to Oral Roberts. The Mastodons are led offensively by Alex Frank's four goals. Chris Baranowski and Emil Fosse each have two assists on the year. Tor Erik Larsen is sixth in the nation and second in the league in saves with 44. In the preseason, Purdue Fort Wayne was picked to finish third in the six-team Summit League.
// PURDUE FORT WAYNE SERIES
UC leads the all-time series, 4-1-0, with its only loss coming last season in Fort Wayne, Indiana, 1-0. In the last meeting in Cincinnati, in 2017, the Bearcats shutout the Mastodons, 4-0, with four different players scoring a goal.
