CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati men's soccer's second-half comeback hopes were cut short Friday night in a 2-1 loss to the visiting No. 10 Xavier Musketeers at historic Nippert Stadium.

In front of a sizeable crowd of 2,072 fans, the Bearcats (1-2) got behind 2-0 to the Musketeers (3-0) after one half of play. UC once again showed its resiliency, pulling within a goal in the 64th minute on a freshman Kyle Healy (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) header off of a senior Donovan Segree (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Daytona State) corner kick.

Armed with some momentum, the Red & Black continued to push forward down the stretch in search of the equalizer. Tries from junior Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) and senior Rex Epps (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork/Army West Point) in the 80th and 82nd minutes proved untrue as Xavier escaped Clifton with the victory.

XU got on the board in a hurry with a goal just over a minute into the match. The Bearcats fell victim again in the 33rd minute when a misplayed ball in the UC box led to an easy Muskies score. The Red & Black nearly picked up a goal before halftime when Epps bounced a ball from close range off the near post – a play that would prove to be symbolic of the Bearcats' night.

The home team outshot the visitors 16-9 in total and 7-5 on target. Epps led the way with a pair of tries on goal while junior Shevon Stewart (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George's College Daytona) also tallied three total shots. Healy's goal was the first of his UC career. Goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Sacred Heart) had three saves.
