Former Football Standout Bill Shalosky Passes Away

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Former University of Cincinnati football standout Bill Shalosky passed away on Dec. 14, 2018 in Columbia, S.C. He was 87 years old.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Former University of Cincinnati football standout Bill Shalosky passed away on Dec. 14, 2018 in Columbia, S.C. He was 87 years old.
 
Shalosky (Sept. 23, 1931-Dec. 14, 2018) was inducted in the James P. Kelly UC Athletics Hall of Fame in 1984 and was a charter member of the Ring of Honor at Nippert Stadium.
 
He was a three-year starter at left guard (1950-52) and earned the reputation of being one of the top downfield blockers in college football. Shalosky was tabbed for All-Mid-American Conference and All-Ohio honors three times and earned Honorable Mention All-America accolades in 1952 (AP, UPI, NEA). He played in the East-West Shrine and College All-Star games. Shalosky also competed in track, winning the Ohio College State Championship in the shot put.
 
Following graduation, he served in the United States Army and later coached at the U.S. Military Academy under legendary coach Red Blaik. He returned to UC under Head Coach George Blackburn and was a Bearcats assistant from 1955-59. His coaching career continued under another legendary coach, Paul Dietzel, at LSU, Army and South Carolina.
 
He also later served as an athletics business manager and golf coach for the Gamecocks. After retiring from college athletics and coaching, Shalosky worked in private business.
 
The native of Louisville, Ohio, is survived by Rita, his wife of 64 years, son Michael, daughter Kathy along with three grandchildren.
 
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11 a.m. inside Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Columbia, S.C. (120 Mary Dale Ln., Columbia, SC 29210).
