// LAST TIME OUT
UC (4-6-1, 0-1-1 AAC) extended its unbeaten streak to three matches Wednesday night with a 3-2 overtime victory against the Cleveland State Vikings at Gettler Stadium.
Freshman forward Sam Robinson (Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda) scored UC's golden goal in the 92nd minute with a header off of a corner kick from junior midfielder Shevon Stewart (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George's College/Daytona State). The score was the first of Robinson's young career.
The Red & Black went into halftime with a 1-0 lead following a score by senior forward Rex Epps (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork/Army West Point) during the 42nd minute. Armed with some momentum, UC struck again early in the second half with senior midfielder Cameron Panley's (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) first goal of the season – a rebound off the post from junior forward Darryn Commissiong's (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) strike in the 48th minute.
The Bearcats seemed poised to cruise to victory, but the visitors had other plans. CSU got on the board during the 52nd minute and tied things up in the 66th minute. Both teams charged ahead over the duration of the second half in search of the go-ahead score. With no scoring opportunities truly materializing, the match went into overtime.
UC was aggressive early in the extra period, creating set-piece chances, highlighted by a corner kick that led to the game-winning score in the 92nd minute.
// LAWRENCE & COMMISSIONG HONORED
A pair of Bearcats were recognized by the league Monday with Lawrence named AAC Goalkeeper of the Week, while Commissiong was picked for the Weekly Honor Roll.
Lawrence notched his first clean sheet of the season with four stops in a 5-0 home win on Oct. 1 vs. Purdue Fort Wayne (PFW). He followed with a season-high-tying six saves in 1-1 OT draw at Temple on Oct. 5. Entering Saturday's match, the junior has 42 saves on the year which is tops in the league.
Also against PFW, UC's offense was paced by Commissiong who dished out an assist and recorded a pair of goals – both within 10 minutes of each other late in the second half – to bring his season total to 12 points. For the season, the junior's goals total (5) ranked sixth in the conference, while his points total tied for eighth.
The weekly awards mark the third time this year UC has been recognized by the league. Commissiong previously landed on the Honor Roll on Sept. 23, while Lawrence did the same on Sept. 9.
// SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
UConn (3-7-1, 0-2-0 AAC) is winless in its last five games, including, most recently a 2-1 home loss Tuesday to Providence. The Huskies have suffered conference defeats to USF (2-1) and Memphis (1-0). On the season, senior forward Jordan Hall leads the team with nine goals, but has not played in the last two matches.
