STORRS, Conn. – University of Cincinnati volleyball continued its strong start in conference play with a 3-0 sweep at UConn Friday night.
 
The Bearcats are now a perfect 5-0 in American Athletic Conference play and have just lost one set through the current stretch with four match sweeps.

Jordan Thompson had 15 kills on .433 hitting and added in eight digs
Maria Mallon was close behind with 13 kills. She had ten kills and three aces
Adria Oliver also reached double-digits in kills with ten. She added in two blocks
Armania Heckenmueller finished with 37 assists and led the team with four aces
Karoline Fauske had six kills and eight digs on the night
 
// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UC 25-14
UConn started the match with a kill but UC scored the next three points on two Oliver kills and an attack error. Another 3-0 run by the Bearcats put them ahead 12-9. Fauske started that scoring spree with a kill with a Thompson kill and Huskies error following. UConn brought the lead to within one, 12-11, before UC answered with five-straight points to force a timeout. Two Oliver kills, two Mallon kills and 000 put the score at 17-11. The final three points came from a Thompson kill and two Mallon aces for the set win.
 
Set 2: UC 25-14
The Bearcats dominated in the second set. A 5-0 run on two Thompson kills, a Mallon kill and two UConn errors had it 7-2. Another big run, this one 6-0, pushed the lead to 17-5. That advantage came after an error, Heckenmueller ace, Damjana Cabarkapa kill, another Heckenmueller ace and back-to-back Mallon kills. Facing set point, the Huskies scored three-straight, but Oliver ended it with a kill from Heckenmueller.
 
Set 3: UC 25-20
Tied at four a Thompson kill and ace put UC ahead 6-4. UConn was able to get back ahead, but then an error tied it at nine and the next three points were all from UC. Mallon had a kill, Fauske and Cabarkapa and a Heckenmueller ace grabbed the lead. The Huskies kept it close but the Bearcats were able to maintain the lead the rest of the way. Up 20-18, Fauske had a kill, Chrysanthi Stamatiou had an ace. A Thompson kill secured the victory.

The Bearcats remain on the road for the next three matches. The team travels to Temple for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday. Next weekend UC visits Tulane and Houston.
