THE SERIES
Saturday marks the rekindling of a series which got started in 1957. Houston leads the all-time series 15-10 with a 10-4 edge in Houston. Cincinnati has won five of the last seven meetings, including two of three in Texas.
THE COACHES
Luke Fickell, the 2018 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, is in his third season at Cincinnati. The 42nd head coach in program history, Fickell took the reins in December 2016 after 15 years at his alma mater, Ohio State. A veteran of nearly 20 years in the FBS ranks, Fickell was a part of nine Big Ten Conference titles (seven as a coach, two as a player) and two national championship squads with 16 postseason games and 13 NFL Draft selections under his belt.
Dana Holgorsen is in his first season at Houston after spending the previous eight years as the head coach at West Virginia. The second-winningest coach in WVU history, he has a career mark of 63-44. Prior to his time at WVU, he was an OC at Oklahoma State, Houston and Texas Tech along with stops at Wingate, Mississippi College and Valdosta State.

STREAKS, STORYLINES, SIDEBARS ...
- The Bearcats play their 132nd football season in 2019. UC's program dates to 1885 and is one of the 10 oldest in the NCAA FBS. UC has won a league title five times in the last 12 years and has played 10 bowl games in the past 13 years.
- UC has won four-straight American Athletic Conference FB Team Academic Excellence Awards in 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018.
- Cincinnati was the only school in the country in 2018-19 to tally 11 football wins, including a bowl win, and earn 24 or more wins in baseball, men's and women's basketball and volleyball.
- UC, picked second in the AAC preseason media poll, had 11 wins a year ago, marking only the third time in program history the feat has been achieved (2008, 2009). The Bearcats returned more than 85% of the roster, over 5,000 yards of total offense, 10 of the Top-15 tacklers and 14 starters from the 2018 squad.
- The 2019 roster features players from 14 states and six countries with 72 hailing from Ohio and 26 from the Cincinnati area. Forty-five percent of the roster (53/117 players) is made up by freshmen and redshirt freshmen.
- UC will not play consecutive home or road games this season, the first time in the modern era it has occurred.
- UC is 15-3 since the start of the 2018 campaign and moved into the national rankings this week, sitting at No. 25 (AP).
- UC's 27-24 win over then No. 18/19 UCF was its first victory over a ranked team since 2012 and first at home since 2009.
- The win snapped UCF's streak of 19 consecutive wins over conference teams and the Knights' string of scoring 30 or more points in 31-straight games, the longest NCAA FBS streak since 1936.
- With the victory over UCF, UC posted its ninth-consecutive home win and sixth in a row at Nippert Stadium in AAC games.
- LB Jarell White and P James Smith earned AAC Defensive and Special Teams POTW, respectively. Smith dropped five punts inside the 20 and 4 inside the 10 while White had 7 tackles, a TFL, a forced fumble and a key 4th-quarter INT.
- QB Desmond Ridder has completed 62% of his passes and ranks No. 4 in the AAC in passing efficiency with a 144.2 rating.
- UC's top three backs, Michael Warren II (4.7), Tavion Thomas (4.8), Gerrid Doaks (5.7) and Ryan Montgomery (5.4) all average over four ypc. Warren became the 13th UC player with 2,000-yards or more with his 133-yards against UCF.
- TE Josiah Deguara has a reception in 18-straight games and is UC's leading receiver with 17 rec. for 247 yds and three TDs. WR Alec Pierce has averaged 19.2 yards per catch on 15 receptions for 288 yards and two TDs.
- The defense has rung up 36.0 tackles for a loss, 13.0 sacks and nine turnovers (5 interceptions & 4 fumble recoveries).
- S Darrick Forrest leads the team in tackles with 42 stops. He had a career best 16 tackles against UCF.
HONORING THE 2009 BEARCATS
The Bearcats will honor the 10th Anniversary of the 2009 perfect regular season throughout the campaign with all season ticket holders set to receive an exclusive dual bobblehead commemorating one of the greatest plays in UC history, the 29-yard TD strike from Tony Pike to Armon Binns in UC's come-from-behind win over Pitt on Dec. 5, 2009.
All 2019 UC football season-ticket holders will receive the dual bobblehead, one per ticket purchased. The season-ticket book, also exclusive to season-ticket holders, features a dual 2009-2019 season-ticket design showcasing Bearcats stars of past and present.
