TicketsKIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – University of Cincinnati women's golf finished day one at the College of Charleston Palmetto Intercollegiate in a tie for 10th place with a first-round score of 299 at the Turtle Point Golf Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
Against a deep field of competition featuring more than 20 teams, the Bearcats holed 12 birdies to finish under 300 for the second-consecutive round.
UC was led on the day by freshman Paighton Masterson (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) who shot a season-best, 1-over-par 73 to place in a tie for 20th out of more than 100 golfers. Masterson's best round of the year featured five birdies, including an even par front-nine holes.
Junior Angela Lopez (Bogotá, Colombia) followed in a tie for 34th with a first-round 74, including a strong back nine in which she went 1-under-par with two birdie scores.
Senior Daniela Murcia (Bogotá, Colombia) continued her strong play with a 75 in the opening round, including a 1-under-par front nine, bolstered by a pair of birdies.
The Red & Black scoring team rounded out with senior Alyssa Burritt (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) scoring a 77, while junior Vanessa Manrique (Bogotá, Colombia) carded a 78.
The Bearcats will be paired with UAB and Troy for Monday's second round and will begin teeing off at 8:50 a.m. ET from hole No. 1. Follow along with live scoring here.

"Today was a good day for the Bearcats. We threw away some shots coming down the stretch that we cannot throw away over the next two rounds. The team was focused and good iron shots and short game really helped today. I'm proud of Paighton for shooting her lowest collegiate round, on a tough golf course. Vanessa did a good job of playing injured and we hope to have her back solid tomorrow. Solid play also came from Daniela and Alyssa.
