I have played soccer since the age of five or so, it has always been something I have loved to do and it is something that has forged the way I live my life. I come from a small rural part of South-West England, where the opportunity to play soccer is relatively small, and so after going to the only available clubs around where I lived, it was soon obvious that if soccer was something that I wanted to do, than I would have to move away from home.
I left home at the age of 11, I went to a sports boarding school in England for two years allowing me access to play for Southampton. But by the age of 13, my live changed completely. After attending a summer soccer camp on holiday, I was asked to join AC Milan. Moving to Italy at the age of 13 without my family was somewhat daunting at first, but the opportunity was too good to pass up. I stayed in Italy for a further four years, until just before my eighteenth birthday. When I first moved there, I didn't know the language, I didn't know anyone there, and now I can speak Italian and I know people that will continue to change my life forever.
Italy was such an important experience for me, because not only did I improve as a soccer player immensely, but it gave me a culture, a language, friends and most importantly an experience that will change the way I live forever.
After leaving Italy, I was again lucky enough to be given the opportunity to move once again, and be able to come here to the University of Cincinnati to play soccer. For which I hope can give me the same valuable experiences that I have been lucky enough to obtain so far in my life.
