Women’s Soccer Falls at Houston, 3-0

The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team dropped its first road conference match of the year as the Bearcats suffered a 3-0 loss to host Houston Sunday afternoon at the Carl Lewis International Complex on the UH campus.

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team dropped its first road conference match of the year as the Bearcats suffered a 3-0 loss to host Houston Sunday afternoon at the Carl Lewis International Complex on the UH campus. The Bearcats, who were 3-0-0 on the year in their first three American Athletic Conference road contests, slipped to 6-7-2 overall and 4-2-0 in league play while the Cougars, winners of two in a row, improved to 5-11-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the AAC.

// NOTING THE MATCH
• Cincinnati fell to 6-7-2 overall and 4-2-0 in the AAC (12 points) while Houston improved to 5-11-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the league (6)
• The Bearcats still lead the all-time series with the Cougars, 7-4-2, but are 0-2-2 in the last four matches while seeing the series record tied a 3-3-0 in matches played in Houston
• Despite the loss, the Bearcats posted their best AAC road conference record in the seven years the league has competed, going 3-1-0 in their four matches this year
Madison Less recorded one save on the day and Jane Sensibaugh saw her first action in goal in 2019, playing 11 minutes in the match
Han Tang led all players with three shots on the day while Vanessa DiNardo fired two times in the defeat
• Both teams played many players on the day with the Bearcats sending 22 different players to the pitch and the Cougars using 23

// ROAD WARRIORS
Despite the loss, UC finished its 2019 AAC road slate with a 3-1-0 record with three wins by shutout. Since the league began in 2013, the most road victories the Bearcats had accumulated in a single season was two in 2013 (2-2-0), 2016 (2-2-1) and 2017 (2-2-0) before winning three this year. The three clean sheets recorded on the road against AAC foes also is a team record, surpassing the two recorded in both 2015 and 2016.

// AROUND THE LEAGUE
Match Day #9 saw four matches held with the home team winning three and posting shutouts while another played to a scoreless draw. On the day, UCF and UConn played to a 0-0 score with USF (2-0) defeating Temple, SMU (4-0) defeating ECU, and UC falling at Houston. With those results, the Top 6 in the league (which would make the postseason tournament) are Memphis on 16 points, USF (15), UC (12), UCF (11), Temple (7) and ECU (7). The remaining four teams are all tied for seventh place with six points, meaning the final two weeks could see lots of movement in the standings.

Three home matches remain for the 2019 regular season with the Florida schools coming to town next week. The Bearcats will face rv/#21 USF Thursday night at 7 p.m. inside Gettler Stadium before #21/rv UCF visits Gettler Stadium Sunday at 1 p.m.
