// LAST TIME OUT
UC (5-7-1, 1-2-1 AAC) picked up its first American Athletic Conference win of the season Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Tulsa at Hurricane Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In a competitive match throughout, senior forward Rex Epps (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork/Army West Point) scored the game winner in the 68th minute – a strike from about 25 yards out off of a feed from junior goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Sacred Heart).
In a tightly-contested first half, the Bearcats were led by junior Creggton Charlton's (Clarendon, Jamaica/Clarendon College/Daytona State) three shots on goal and redshirt freshman goalkeeper Tyler Glasenapp's (Medina, Ohio/Medina) career-best four saves.
In the following period, the teams again played even until Epps broke the scoreless tie in the 68th minute. Down the stretch, the Red & Black defense continued to limit the Tulsa offense as UC came away in the end with crucial conference points.
Epps and Charlton were joined with a shot on target by junior midfielder Shevon Stewart (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George's College/Daytona State). Lawrence, who played in just the second half, registered three saves to bring his season total to an AAC-leading 50 stops.
On the season, Commissiong leads the Bearcats with 13 points (5 goals, 3 assists), while Charlton has 9 points (4 goals, 1 assist).
// EPPS HONORED
Epps was selected to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll on Monday afternoon. He earned the honor after scoring the game-winner at Tulsa on Saturday night. The tally was his second of the season and first game-winning goal in 2019. The weekly awards mark the fourth time this year UC has been recognized by the league.
// SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
IUPUI (3-7-2, 2-2-1 AAC) is winless in its last five matches with, most recently, a 2-0 home loss to Cleveland State on Saturday. Scoreless in their last three games, the Jaguars offense is led by Yan Souza's four goals, while Alan Aguilar has three scores. Goalkeeper Quinn McCallion has 58 saves with one shutout. In the preseason, IUPUI was tabbed to finish seventh in the nine-team Horizon League.
// IUPUI SERIES
The Bearcats lead the Jaguars in the all-time series, 8-2, with four-straight victories. In matches played in Indy, UC is 2-1. In the most recent overall meeting last season, the Red & Black defeated the Jaguars 3-1 in Cincinnati. Epps scored a pair of first-half goals and tallied an assist in the win.
