University of Cincinnati Student-Athlete Support Services held its seventh annual Bearcats Go Pro event this past Monday in Fifth Third Arena. The event offers career engagements and professional development for junior and senior student-athletes with more than 150 in students in attendance. A total of 22 former UC student-athletes served in a professional role at the event: Patrick Coyne (Football), Lizzie Ehrnfelt (Soccer), Meg Westerheide (Track & Field), Terry Grooms (Football), Dustin Grutza (Football), Hank Davis (Football), LaVar Glover (Football), Vince Byrd (Football), Patrick Oakes (Football), Jaashir Morris (Track & Field), Alexis Anton (Track & Field), Samantha Wolkoff (Swimming & Diving), Robert Rude (Baseball), Chris Klenk (Baseball), Alex Macaffer (Lacrosse), Katarina Kemner (Cheer), Pedro Diaz (Soccer), Jordan Cotleur (Soccer), Kerry Byrne (Baseball), Loretta Blaut (Track & Field), Khalil El-Amin (Football) and Jenny Carey (Tennis).

Five sessions were offered throughout the night with each student attending two sessions based on their career preferences and majors. The sessions included networking, round table discussions, mock interviews, graduate/pre-professional school information and a career panel.
 
The networking session featured more than 60 professionals from more than 40 companies, including Sharp Business Systems, Gateway Logistics, Cincinnati Bell, Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health Services, P&G, Cintas, TQL, State Farm, FC Cincinnati, Cincinnati Reds and PepsiCo. Student-athletes were able to make connections and learn about different companies and full-time opportunities. 12 former UC student-athletes represented their respective companies.
 
New this year, the round tables focused on student-athletes with specific career paths, such as professions in the medical field, health and fitness, teaching and law enforcement. The student-athletes had the opportunity to sit down with a professional and gain advice and network. Three of the professionals were former student-athletes.
 
The mock interview session allowed the chance for student-athletes to practice their interview skills. Faculty and staff from UC's sport administration and ELCE departments as well as representatives from FC Cincinnati, TQL, Kingsgate Logistics and StriveTogether conducted interviews and provided feedback on both the interviews and the student-athletes' resumes.
 
A panel of graduate/pre-professional school representatives provided general information, answered common questions and met one-on-one with student athletes. The session included representatives from the Lindner College of Business, sport administration, UC Law, criminal justice, pre-professional advising, applied behavior analysis and the Department of Rehabilitation, Exercise and Nutrition Sciences. Two former student-athletes were on the panel.
 
The fifth panel provided student-athletes with advice and insight on life after college. As current professionals, the panelists spoke about their experience as student-athletes and the steps they took to get where they are today. Student-athletes also had the opportunity to ask their own questions and speak one-on-one with the panelists. Five additional former student-athletes took part in the career panel.
