CINCINNATI - Hundreds of guests filled Fifth Third Arena on Friday evening to join in the celebration and honoring of accomplished individuals at the 2019 Legion of Excellence.

The Legion of Excellence, held on October 18, recognized the academic achievements of current UC scholar-athletes from each sport, inducted the 2009 undefeated UC Football team and Dan Hoard into the James P. Kelly Sr. UC Athletics Hall of Fame, honored a new recipient of the Strubbe Distinguished Service Award and named three new inductees to the Order of the Black Blazer.

The event began with a cocktail hour reception open to all attendees. Following the reception, programming began with an introduction by emcee Mo Egger, on-air host for iHeart media, ESPN radio and Fox Sports Ohio.
UC Athletic Director Mike Bohn then introduced the 2019 Strubbe Distinguished Service Award winner, Cindy Coggins. This award honors the continuous efforts of offering time and support, allowing her to make a volunteer impact on the betterment of the Bearcats mission.

Bohn then welcomed the three 2019 Order of the Black Blazer Honorees to the stage.

John Hart, Ginger Warner and Greg Wolf were officially coated with their Black Blazers. The Order of the Black Blazer, which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, recognized Hart, Warner and Wolf for their extraordinary enthusiasm and support for UC, as they have contributed at a leadership level and have distinguished themselves with their actions in advancement of UC Athletics through their time, talent and treasures.

A brief break in programming followed as dinner was served.

A UC student-athlete from each athletic team with the highest overall GPA for the 2018-19 academic year was then honored.

Following, the 2009 Football team was inducted into the James P. Kelly Sr. UC Athletics Hall of Fame for their accomplishments as the winningest team in UC Football history.

Former team captains Tony Pike and Aaron Webster received the award, and each gave brief remarks about their experience and gratitude before being joined onstage by teammates for a group photo.

To end the reception, Dan Hoard, longtime play-by-play announcer for UC Football, was inducted into the James P. Kelly Sr. UC Athletics Hall of Fame for his dedication and impact on the program.

The Strubbe Distinguished Service Award winner, Order of the Black Blazer honorees and the 2019 Hall of Fame inductees were all honored on Saturday with on-field recognition at the UC Football game against Tulsa.
