CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati men's soccer junior forward Creggton Charlton (Clarendon, Jamaica/Clarendon College/Daytona State) scored his fifth goal of the season Saturday night in a 7-1 Bearcats loss to the 12th-ranked SMU Mustangs at Gettler Stadium.

Charlton's goal moved him into a tie for the season team lead with junior forward Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) at five.

With the loss, UC dropped to 5-9-1 on the season and 1-3-1 in the American Athletic Conference (AAC). Meanwhile, SMU improved to 12-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the league.

The Bearcats had an early shot on goal in the second minute by sophomore midfielder Paul Bangura (Woodbridge, Va./West Potomac), but couldn't muster up much else in the first half while the Mustangs scored four – including three by forward Garrett McLaughlin – to go up 4-0 at the break.

McLaughlin added two more goals early in the second half before the Red & Black got on the board with Charlton's tally in the 65th minute. The nationally-ranked Mustangs added another in the 88th minute to bring the final score to 7-1.

Charlton led UC with five shots, including three on target. Junior midfielder Shevon Stewart (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George's College/Daytona State) and senior defender Donovan Segree (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Daytona) were both credited with an assist on Charlton's goal. Segree also had two shots, while Commissiong, too, recorded a pair. Junior goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Sacred Heart) saved two shots to bring his season total to 54.
