CINCINNATI - Over 2,000 runners crossed the finish line of the Fourth Annual Bearcats Dash & Bash on Sunday, October 6, 2019 around the University of Cinicnnati campus.
The race, which featured both a 5k and 18.19k, to celebrate the year of UC's founding, provided an opportunity for participants to get some exercise while supporting a good cause.
Funds were raised to support both the UCATS general scholarship fund and the UC College of Law's Ohio Innocence Project.
UCATS, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, strives to provide critical funding to benefit UC student-athletes in their pursuit of success in the classroom and on the fields of competition. Annual contributions to this organization from generous donors have helped to offset the expenses of more than 550 student-athletes.
The Ohio Innocence Project, which was founded in 2003 at UC, has a simple mission: to free every innocent person in Ohio who has been convicted of a crime they didn't commit. Since the inception of the OIP, the initiative has led to the release of 28 wrongfully convicted Ohioans, who collectively served over 525 years behind bars.
For the race, participants had the opportunity to register as a team and support an exoneree of the initiative. This was the case for many former Bearcat student-athletes who returned to campus to show their support.
Runners were able to view their finish on the Lindner Family Vision Board at Nippert Stadium as the 50-yard line was transformed into a timing station and finish line.
The event offered something for the entire family, as children of all ages also had the chance to participate in a 40-yard dash on the field.
A post-race bash occured on the field and stadium concourse with complimentary food and beverages from some of Cincinnati's most popular venues, vendor booths and a live band.
Overall, the event was a great success. The date for the Fifth Annual Bearcats Dash & Bash has been set for October 4, 2020. More information on details of the event can be found here.
