The Turning Point: The Buckeyes opened the second half on an 11-3 run in the first four minutes of play to grab the lead (30-29), a lead they would not relinquish.
Leaders: Jarron Cumberland and Keith Williams led the way for the Bearcats with 13 points each and Chris McNeal added 10 in his debut at Cincinnati while Kyle Young led all scorers with 14 points for Ohio State. Trevon Scott, who scored three points from the free-throw line while adding a career-high-tying 12 rebounds, six of which came on the offensive glass, also tying a career-high.

• HALFTIME REPORT: The Bearcats built a 26-19 lead at the break as both teams struggled from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play, combining for a collective 19-of-63 (.302) shooting. Cincinnati led for 18:42 of the half thanks in part to not allowing the Buckeyes to score for the opening 7:40 of the game. Ohio State eventually took the lead but held it for just 27 seconds as a Jarron Cumberland trey put the visitors back in front. Individually, Cumberland and Keith Williams both scored seven points while Chris McNeal chipped in five. Additionally, Trevon Scott pulled down nine boards, including five on the offensive glass, leaving him one shy of tying his career-high total. Kyle Young led all scorers with 10 in the first half.

• Trevon Scott was big on the boards for the Bearcats as the senior pulled down 12 to tie his career-high after recording the same last year in the AAC Tournament against SMU (March 15, 2019). Scott, who finished three points, also grabbed six offensive rebounds – five of which came in the first half – to tie his single-game game, which also came in the game with SMU. Scott opened the season with a double-digit rebounding effort, giving him nine for his career after recording seven last year and one as a freshman.
• NEWCOMER TRACKER: Six different players debuted for the Bearcats tonight with each scoring as well.
- Vogt started and finished with four points, including a layup on the opening possession to stake UC to an early 2-0 lead
- McNeal also started and finished with 10 points. He opened his scoring with a three-point basket in the first half that followed Vogt's basket for a 5-0 lead.
- Harvey entered the game as a sub at 13:35 and got into the scoring column 39 seconds later as he made his second of two free throw attempts. The rookie finished with three points on the night, going 3-of-3 from the charity stripe.
