CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati track & field teams will compete in 20 meets in the coming 2020 season with 10 indoor and 10 outdoor events on the slate that opens this week as the Bearcats will face one another in their annual Red vs. Black Intrasquad meet Friday, November 22. The first regular-season meet of the indoor season comes December 6 at the Blue & White Open in Lexington, Ky., with the collegiate season coming to an end in Austin, Texas, June 10-13 at the NCAA Outdoor Finals.
// INDOOR SEASON
The Bearcats' 2020 season will actually start in 2019 as they will compete twice with the addition of the Blue & White Open at Kentucky getting things started. One week later, UC will venture to Bloomington, Ind., for the Hoosier Open (December 13), which has been their annual opener the past four years.
Following the holiday break, the Bearcats will be back in action in mid-January with back-to-back meets in Lexington as the will compete in both the Jim Green Invitational (January 10-11) and Rod McCravy Memorial (January 24-25) to get things started. The month comes to a close the following week back in Bloomington as UC will take part in the Indiana Relays (January 31-February 1).
In February, UC will take part in two meets before the championship season gets underway. First, the Bearcats will return to the Charlie Thomas Invitational at Texas A&M (February 7-8) before heading to Nashville, Tenn., for the Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt (February 14-15). Following one week off from competition, UC will look to build on the conference success the cross country teams enjoyed in November as they head to Birmingham, Ala., for the American Athletic Indoor Championships (February 28-29) to start the championship season. The indoor season comes to a close two weeks later with the NCAA Indoor Championships being held in Albuquerque, N.M., March 13-14.
// OUTDOOR SEASON
With the indoor season in the books, the following week will be the University's spring break week which will see the Bearcats jump right into outdoor competition at the Houston Invitational. Following a small break and the calendar turning to April, the Bearcats will be home for their lone meet of the year as they will play host to the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational April 3-4. The majority of the meet will be held inside Gettler Stadium with the hammer and javelin competitions once again taking place at Coy Field.
UC will return to the road the following week with the Tennessee Relays (April 9-11) taking place in Knoxville, Tenn. The Bearcats, who will look to add another meet the weekend of April 18, will send athletes to a pair of events at the end of the month. A handful of individuals will travel to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia (April 23-25) while the rest of the team will venture to Louisville April 24-25 for the Lyles/Wood Invitational.
One May hits, the Bearcats will have one final chance to tune-up before the championship season hits again as they will return to Bloomington, Ind., May 1 for the Billy Hayes Invitational. Following one week off, UC will travel to Tampa, Fla., for the AAC Outdoor Championships (May 15-17). May comes to an end with those that qualify returning to Lexington for the NCAA East Preliminary Round meet May 28-30, which will be utilized to select those individuals that will advance to Austin, Texas, for the NCAA Championship Finals, June 10-13, to cap the collegiate season.
// EXTRA COMPETITION
The collegiate competitions are not the only meets the Bearcats will compete. Those that qualify will have a chance to compete at a pair of U.S. Track & Field events, including the US Junior Championships (TBA dates) and the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials. International Bearcats also will be looking to compete in their respective national competitions in June and July as well.
