CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's golf head coach Janet Carl announced Thursday the signings of Makenna Jones and Sadie Pan. The pair will join the Bearcats beginning with the 2020-21 season.
A state tournament qualifier all four years of high school, Jones (New Paris, Ohio/National Trail) was the Cross Country Conference Player of the Year four-straight years and was also a four-time conference medalist. One of the best girls golfers in Ohio Division II, Jones won two sectional championship and two district championships as well as placed runner-up in both championships the remaining two years. Experienced on the national and international circuits, she has played at renowned courses such as Pinehurst and PGA National and qualified and played in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship three times.
"We are excited to have Makenna join us in the fall of 2020," said Carl. "Makenna is very coachable and brings a competitive personality, solid work ethic, along with sound mechanics. She has a lot of tournament experience and is continuing to grow as a golfer. While she has accomplished a lot in high school, we look forward to her continuing to accomplish great things at the college level."
Pan (Clarksville, Tenn./Rossview) qualified for the state tournament three times in high school, with an eighth-place finish as a senior. She was also a member of the all-area golf team throughout high school and was nominated for the Tennessee Sports Award Girls Golfer of the Year honor for the 2018-19 season. Pan came in first place in the Amateur Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Junior Cup and won titles at the Sneds Tour Tournament of Champions and the Craig Rudolph Memorial. Additionally, she competed in the Tennessee Women's Amateur.
"We are excited to announce the signing of an exceptional golfer out of Clarksville, Tennessee," said Carl. "Sadie brings an exceptional work ethic, positive outlook, and a deep competitive history. We are excited to have the opportunity to continue to develop Sadie in her playing skills and course management. We expect her to accomplish many things while studying here."
