Harris-McCarthy Duo Leads Day One Effort at Kiawah Classic

The UC duo of Cole Harris and Joe McCarthy are tied for 34th place after posting 1-over par 73 scores Sunday to open play at the Kiawah Classic.

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati freshman Cole Harris (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS) and junior Joe McCarthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier/DePaul) tied for 34th place with 1-over par 73 scores Sunday during first-round action of the Kiawah Classic at Turtle Point Golf Course. 

Harris carded four birdies with 10 par scores on the day. McCarthy posted a pair of birdies and 13 par scores.  

Sophomore Sam Jean (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) also registered a steady round with a pair of birdies and 12 par scores to finish one stroke behind Harris and McCarthy at 2-over 74. 

Junior Clay Amlung (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier) sits one shot behind Jean at 3-over 75. Redshirt-sophomore Mason Lenhart (Prospect, Ky./North Oldham HS) tied for 87th place at 6-over 78.

Auburn's Jovan Rebula leads the individual leaderboard after an 8-under 64 result. 

As a team, the Bearcats are tied with Samford for seventh place at 7-over 295. Auburn leads the 21-team event after a 14-under 274 showing Sunday.

On Cincinnati's first-round performance: 

"We continue to struggle putting together complete rounds. The course played hard early and, as the round progressed, I thought we settled in and just didn't convert on a couple holes. The weather looks good tomorrow and we must execute better on key holes that we didn't do so today."
