The Turning Point: After going into overtime for the third game in a row, the Bearcats trailed by one early into the extra frame before the Cumberland cousins connected on seven free throws in the final two minutes with Chris Vogt slamming home a dunk to help Cincinnati outscore UNLV, 9-2, over the final 2:51 of overtime.

Leaders: Jarron Cumberland scored 20 points, including five in overtime, to lead four Bearcats in double-figures on the night, a group that included 14 points each from Keith Williams and Chris Vogt and a career-high-tying 10 from Mika Adams-Woods. Elijah Mitrou-Long led all scoring with 29 points on the night with Amauri Hardy scoring 13 points as the only other UNLV player in double figures on the night.

  • Cincinnati improved to 5-2 on the year with the win while UNLV slipped to 3-6 overall with the loss
  • IN THE SERIES: Cincinnati remained undefeated in the all-time series with UNLV, improving to 7-0 all-time and 3-0 when the game is played in the Queen City.
  • Tonight's game marked the first time in program history Cincinnati has played three-consecutive overtime contests after falling to Bowling Green (84-91) and defeating Valparaiso (81-77) last week at the Paradise Jam. The program has played several back-to-back overtime games in its history with the most recent occurrence coming last year as the Bearcats won at Tulsa (70-65) and at home against UConn (74-72) on January 10, 2019, and January 12, 2019, respectively.
  • Through seven games this year, the Bearcats have already played into overtime three times, tying for the fourth-most overtime games in a single season in program history. The 1966-67 team went to overtime five times (5-0) while the 1987-88 (1-3) and 2000-01 (2-2) squads each played in four. The last time UC played three overtime games in a single season came in 2015-16.
  • HALFTIME REPORT: Neither team shot well in the first half, but a 9-0 run over the final 2:19 of the stanza gave the visiting Runnin' Rebels a 33-24 lead at halftime, the largest deficit the Bearcats have faced at the break all season, surpassing the four-points they trailed by against Valparaiso the last time out. Mika Adams-Woods led the way for Cincinnati with eight points on 3-of-4 shooting, leaving him just two points shy of tying his career-high. Elijah Mitrou-Long led all scorers in the first half as he poured in 14 for UNLV.
  • Tonight, Cincinnati clawed back from a 12-point deficit, the largest deficit it has faced this season, surpassing the 10-point deficit Illinois State held in the opening game of the Paradise Jam. With 18:18 remaining in the game, the Bearcats trailed by 12 and cut it 10 at the 16:34 mark, which started a 12-0 run that gave Cincinnati its first lead since the 14:44 mark of the first half. On the run, Jarron Cumberland open things with a made free throw before Keith Williams scored the first two of his nine points on the run that also Mika Adams-Woods add a bucket.

// PLAYER NOTES
  • Freshman Mika Adams-Woods tied a career-high with 10 points on the night, hitting double-digits for the second game in a row. After scoring eight in the first half and adding a hoop in the second, Adams-Woods finished with 4-of-6 shooting from the field, including 2-of-4 from distance. Overall, he set career-highs in three-point attempts, three-pointers made and blocks (one) while tying his best for points, field goals attempted, field goals made and rebounds (five).
  • Chris Vogt got off to a slow start as he was held scoreless on 0-of-4 shooting in the first half of play. Despite the start, he finished strong with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting, scoring in double-figures for the sixth game in a row with UC.
  • For the second game in a row and the 22nd time in his career, Jarron Cumberland collected at least 20 points in a game while also reaching double figures for the 38th time in his last 40 contests. Cumberland did most of his damage from the charity stripe where he was 12-of-17 in the game after going 3-of-12 from the floor, including 2-of-6 from three.
  • ON THE LIST: With his 20 points tonight, Cumberland inched closer to the next rung on the scoring ladder as he has tallied 1,441 points in his career, leaving him 10 points shy of the No. 17 position all-time in program history. Currently, Dwight Jones (1980-83) sits 17th with 1,451 points in his career.
