// THE SERIES
Sunday will be the 37th all-time meeting between the two teams with the Redhawks holding a 19-17 advantage. UC came up short last season in Oxford with a 78-65 loss inside Millett Hall. In the setback, four Bearcats scored in double figures, led by 13 points from forward Angel Rizor (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake). In meetings in Cincinnati, UC has an 8-7 edge, including, most recently, a 73-62 win in 2017. Forward IImar'I Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) added 13 points and seven rebounds in the victory.

// LAST TIME OUT
UC (4-4) pulled out a dramatic, last-second win Thursday night with a 58-56 triumph over the VCU Rams at the Siegel Center in Richmond, Virginia. Down 56-54 with 14 seconds remaining in the game, freshman Chellia Watson (Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow) drained a jumper just outside the lane to tie the game at 56 with three seconds to go. Subsequently, pressure from the UC defense on the Rams inbounds pass forced a turnover as Rizor gathered the ball and buried a buzzer beater a step inside the 3-point line to give the Bearcats the win. Junior forward IImar'I Thomas' (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) led the Red & Black with 16 points and six rebounds, while Rizor added 13 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists. In addition, Watson chipped in 10 points, while senior Florence Sifa (Bujumbura, Burundi/Jacksonville College) contributed seven points and a pair of steals.

// SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Rizor has already surpassed her double-double total from last season with two in eight games to begin the year. On the season, she is averaging 8.6 points and 7.4 rebounds (ninth in the AAC) a game. Additionally, her offensive rebounds (2.9 RPG) and steals (2.0 SPG) averages both rank in a tie for ninth in the league.

After scoring a career-high 29 points against Chattanooga on Nov. 19, Thomas was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Nov. 25. Thomas is currently third in the AAC in scoring (18.3 PPG) and rebounding (9.3 RPG). She is also third in the league in field-goal percentage (55.3%), third in free-throw shooting (80.0%), and tops in offensive rebounds (4.6 RPG). On Nov. 12, Thomas was picked for The American Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 19.0 points and 10.5 rebounds during week two of the season. She last earned conference Player of the Week on Dec. 17, 2018.

Senior guard Antoinette Miller (Detroit, Mich./Southfield-Lathrup) has been on a tear, scoring in double-figures in 13 of her last 14 games dating back to last season. The senior is stuffing the stat sheet with 15.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. Furthermore, her scoring and assist averages rank ninth in the conference, assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5) eighth and her 36.4 minutes a contest is fourth-most in the AAC.

A pair of Bearcats are quickly approaching 1,000-career points. Miller currently boasts 869 points, while Thomas is at 908. The duo will soon be the 27th and 28th members of the program's 1,000-point club. Guard Ana Owens was the most recent Bearcat to score 1,000 points when she joined the club in 2017.

The Bearcats have created a formidable home-court advantage inside newly-renovated Fifth Third Arena with a 20-4 home record going back to last season. In total, the Red & Black boasts a 73% (44-16) winning percentage on their home floor over the last four seasons.

Announced at AAC Basketball Media Day on Oct. 14, UC was selected to finish in a tie for third in the 12-team league. In addition, Miller and Thomas were both tabbed for the preseason all-conference second team. Chosen by the league's head coaches, the predicted finish is the highest the Bearcats have ever received in their seven years in The American, while the preseason all-conference accolades are the first since Alyesha Lovett received second team all-AAC honors in 2014.

UC will aim to continue the momentum from last year's historic season which included consecutive postseason wins for the first time in program history (WNIT quarterfinals), first 20-win season (24) since 2003, first time with 12 conference wins since 1999, and highest-ever finish in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) (third place).

With nine newcomers to the program in 2019-20, the Red & Black returns five starters, as well as Illinois transfer Addaya Moore (Granite City, Ill./Granite City/Illinois). Returning senior starters include 2019 second team all-AAC pick Miller, Rizor, and Sam Rodgers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East). In addition, first team all-conference honoree Thomas and reigning league Newcomer of the Year Sifa are also back.

// SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Miami (4-4) dropped its second-straight game with an 80-62 loss at No. 19 Miami on Nov. 30. In the defeat, the Redhawks were led by freshman guard Peyton Scott's 18 points and graduate student guard Bree Paulson's 12 points. Miami boasts wins against Prairie View, South Alabama, Eastern Kentucky, and UIC. On the season, senior guard Lauren Dickerson leads the team with 17.8 points per game, while senior forward Savannah Kluesner and Scott average 13.0 and 11.9 points, respectively. In the preseason, Miami was picked to finish fourth in the six-team Mid-American Conference (MAC) East Division with Dickerson an All-MAC East Division selection.
