The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its All-Region awards on Tuesday with the Bearcats yet again making history.

Jordan Thompson was named the North Region Player of the Year, the first Bearcats player to ever earn Region Player of the Year honors. Additionally, Maria Mallon was named Honorable Mention. This marks the seventh time UC has received multiple AVCA All-Region accolades and the first time since the 2011 season.

Thompson also earned AVCA All-Region notice in 2016 and 2018 and becomes the sixth UC player to be named All-Region three times in her career. The senior became the second player in program history to receive both academic and athletic All-America honors when she was named a CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American on Monday. AVCA All-America teams will be announced next week.

The awards continue to roll in for the senior star. Thompson leads the country in kills, kills per set, points and points per set for the second-straight season. She became UC's all-time leader in kills this year and became the ninth person in NCAA history to reach the 2,500 kill mark in her career. She enters NCAA Regional action seventh all-time in career kills in the NCAA Division I record book.

With 50 kills on her senior night, Thompson became the first Division I player to record 50 or more kills in a match in the current rally-scoring era. The 50-kill feat has been done just six times before by five other players in NCAA Division-I history and hadn't been accomplished since the 1999 season. She already holds the single-season UC and AAC records for kills and is on pace to break her own single-season kills per set record. She will also become the first person in UC history to average 5.00 or more kills per set in her career as she currently sits at 5.41.

Mallon has been an all-around force all season long. The sophomore was a First Team All-AAC honoree for the second time in her career this year. She enters the week ranked in the top 75 nationwide in aces, aces per set, kills, kills per set, points and points per set. Mallon is averaging 3.79 kills per set this season and 3.02 digs per set.
