CINCINNATI - The United Soccer Coaches have announced their annual regional academic awards with University of Cincinnati junior Sophie Gorman earning a place on the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-North/Central Region Third Team for the 2019 season. The honor is the first Gorman and the second in the past three years for the Bearcats after Vanessa Gilles earned a spot on the first team.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have met the following requirements: maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average; start more than 50% of all matches; and be a junior or senior athletically. Gorman met all those qualifications as she sports a 3.85 GPA in Communication at UC and started in 18 of the team's 19 matches in 2019.

An American Athletic All-Conference First Team selection in 2019, Gorman registered six points on two goals and two assists in her third season with the Bearcats which tied her second on the team in both points and goals. Playing nearly 1,500 minutes during the year, Gorman posted one goal and one assist at Lipscomb to help spark the Bearcats to a run of 3-0-1 after opening the year 1-5-0. She also scored an insurance goal in a 2-0 win at Temple while assisting on the game-winning goal Sydney Goins tallied to give the Bearcats the first-ever win at SMU.

The 13th woman in program history to twice earn all-conference honors in a career (second team in 2017 as a freshman), Gorman was part of the 2018-19 squad that also gained recognition from the United Soccer Coaches as the Bearcats not only earned another Team Academic Award, but also sported the highest GPA of any four-year institution, men and women included, in the nation last year with a cumulative 3.79 GPA.

On a conference level, Gorman is one of seven players from the American to be honored this year. Overall, the league saw four individuals earn first-team accolades in their region, two earn second-team and one earn third-team.
