The Turning Point: With 10:33 remaining in the game, Tennessee scored a layup and took a 51-50 lead. Ten seconds later, Keith Williams slammed the ball home for a 52-51 lead, a lead the Bearcats would not relinquish. Over the final 9:53 of play, the Bearcats would outscore the Volunteers, 28-15, to close out the victory.

Leaders: Of the eight Bearcats that saw minutes on the night, six scored in double figures, including Trevon Scott, who led the charge with 15 points. Four other Bearcats scored 11 points, including Keith Williams, Mika Adams-Woods, Chris Vogt and Jaevin Cumberland, while Jarron Cumberland finished with 10. The Volunteers had four players reach double digits with John Fulkerson leading the way with 14 points. Jordan Bowden (13), Lamonte Turner (12) and Yves Pons (11) also added 10 or more.

  • The victory pushed the Bearcats to 7-4 overall on the season while Tennessee fell to 7-3 overall
  • With the win, Cincinnati improved to 54-4 in home games played since the start of the 2016-17 season and avoided back-to-back home losses for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
  • IN THE SERIES: Cincinnati has now won three in a row in the series and improves to 6-1 all-time against Tennessee. The Bearcats are also 4-0 when the series is played in the Queen City.
  • RANKED WINS: The Bearcats are now 67-134 all-time against as an unranked team playing a ranked foe and 1-1 this year (L, 64-56 at #18 Ohio State). Cincinnati also improved to 7-8 all-time against the AP #21 team and has won two in a row with the last victory coming March 11, 2018, a 56-55 win over Houston in the AAC Tournament.
  • MORE RANKINGS: Tonight's win is the first over a ranked opponent for Head Coach John Brannen. He previously was 0-4 against Top 25 teams, including the loss to Ohio State earlier this year.
  • HALFTIME REPORT: Cincinnati used a 10-2 run to close out the first half of play and take a 38-34 lead into the break as both teams shot well from the field, including the Bearcats hitting on a 64.0% clip overall and 50.0% from beyond the arc. The run started with back-to-back threes from Jaevin Cumberland before Trevon Scott hit back-to-back jumpers. Scott led all scorers with 11 points while Cumberland collected 10 points while shooting 2-of-2 from three. John Fulkerson led the way for the Volunteers with 10 points, including 4-of-5 shooting from the floor.
  • RUNNING: In the first half of play, both teams each tallied a pair of runs of six or more points. Cincinnati opened the game with an 8-0 lead before Tennessee answered back with a 6-0 run of its own. After a made UC basket, UT went on another 6-0 run with the Bearcats closing out the half on a 10-0 run to take a four-point advantage into the break.
  • Cincinnati had six different players score in double figures on the night, marking the first time that has happened since November 27, 2018, against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The six with 10+ points tonight included Trevon Scott (15), Keith Williams (11), Mika Adams-Woods (11), Chris Vogt (11), Jaevin Cumberland (11) and Jarron Cumberland (10).
  • The Bearcats scored 46 points in the paint tonight, tying for the most it has scored this year. The previous time came against Valparaiso (11/25/19).
// PLAYER NOTES
  • Mika Adams-Woods earned his first career start tonight and responded well as the freshman scored a career-high 11 points and added a career-high four assists. Adams-Woods came hot out of the gate as he took the first shot of the game and connected on his three-point attempt. He also tied his career-highs from the charity stripe as he was 4-of-4 for the second time this year.
  • Chris Vogt continued his strong start to the season as he reached double digits for the 10th game in a row as he finished with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting. He also collected four rebounds, two assists and one block.
  • Trevon Scott led the team in scoring for the first time this year as he tallied 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting. He also led the team with seven rebounds on the night.
  •  ON THE LIST: Jarron Cumberland finished the night with 10 points to bring his career total to 1,478 points. He is now just seven points shy of overtaking Yancy Gates (2009-12) for 15th on the program's all-time scoring list after Gates amassed 1,485 points during his playing career in the Queen City.
