CINCINNATI - This Giving Tuesday, you can be a change-agent in the life of a student-athlete by supporting initiatives that continue to prioritize mental health & wellness programs and associated resources.
At the University of Cincinnati, the department of athletics strives to provide Bearcats student-athletes with everything they need to succeed in both the classroom and in competition. It is the goal of the department to invest not just in the development of athletic talents, but in the full experience of the 550+ student-athletes who represent the red and black as members of the 19 Division 1 UC sports.
Beyond the fields of competition and underneath their Cincinnati uniforms, student-athletes are always competing against strains like academic and athletic pressures, maintaining health and overcoming injuries, navigating relationships with family and friends, and making decisions that impact their futures. To enhance their complete experience as a student-athlete at UC, it is integral that student-athletes have access to ample resources that support not only healthy bodies, but healthy minds, too.
With the inception of its Pow6rful Minds Campaign in the fall of 2017, the American Athletic Conference has helped create awareness for mental health issues and the resources available for student-athletes.
The UC Department of Athletics hopes to further this initiative on Giving Tuesday at our campus, in hopes of ending the stigma related to seeking help and promoting academic and personal success through a healthy, powerful mind.
Enna Selmanovic, a former UC swimmer vice chair of the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), believes in the importance of this goal. "We want to continue to encourage those student-athletes to seek the care that they may need without judgment in an inclusive environment and in furthering their development of a healthy and powerful mind," she said.
This Giving Tuesday, we hope you will consider helping us reach our important goal of providing the best for each of our student-athletes in every facet of their UC experience – including their mental health & wellness.
Your generous donation will impact the One Team Excellence Fund, and specifically, programs and recourses that develop mental health & wellness, and encourage student-athletes to seek help when they need it. For more information on the initiative, please click here.
