AUSTIN, Texas – After being picked for the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team last month, University of Cincinnati men's soccer sophomore Ben Wendell (Mason, Ohio/Mason) has been selected for the NCAA Division I Academic All-America® third team.

Wendell, a neuroscience major with a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average (GPA), was one of 11 third-team honorees nationwide. Of the 34 members on the Academic All-America® Division I men's soccer teams, only 11 boast a perfect 4.0 GPA.

A defender, the Cincinnati native played in 11 games this season, including nine starts, before being sidelined with injury. He aided the Bearcats in a shutout of Purdue Fort Wayne on Oct. 1 and logged a career-high 110 minutes of play in a 1-1 conference draw at Temple on Oct. 5.

Wendell was a UC Athletics Legion of Excellence honoree in the fall and was also a UC Top Cat with his perfect GPA.

The sophomore's prestigious award is UC's first Academic All-America® honor since 2003 when Tim Brown and Anders Cedergren were both picked for the second team.
