CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati Director of Athletics Mike Bohn announced the hiring of Brandon Sosna as the Bearcats' Chief Revenue Officer.
Sosna spent the past two seasons with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League, where he was promoted to be the club's Salary Cap and Contract Analyst in May of 2018. Previously, Sosna was a member of UC's department of athletics for two years, and he served as the Bearcats' chief of staff prior to joining the Browns.
"We are thrilled to attract Brandon back to the University of Cincinnati from the National Football League," Bohn said. "Brandon is a unique talent and represents the next generation of athletics leadership. During his time as our chief of staff, he played a leading role in many of the significant initiatives our program and fans have enjoyed, including the negotiation of our rental agreement with Northern Kentucky University during the Fifth Third Arena renovation and the installation of the state-of-the-art videoboard in Nippert Stadium. Brandon earned the respect of many campus leaders and partners during his previous stint with the Bearcats, and his exemplary educational and professional backgrounds equip him well to lead our external operation with an innovative and data-driven approach."
Sosna will oversee all aspects of the department's external operation, including ticket sales, marketing and advertising, media relations and strategic communications and all brand-related creative services. Additionally, Sosna will manage the relationship with IMG College, the Bearcats' multimedia rights partner. As a member of the senior staff, Sosna will partner with Bohn on the department's critical pathways projects.
As a member of the Cleveland Browns Player Personnel Department, Sosna worked closely with the Browns' General Manager and Executive Team on the management of the team's salary cap, which was an NFL all-time record of approximately $240 million during the 2018 season. Sosna assisted in the negotiation and execution of player contracts and participated in the club's NFL draft and free agency processes. Additionally, he developed innovative systems for performing player valuations, market analyses, multi-year roster scenario modeling, and trade value calculations. Sosna was part of the front office team that orchestrated the best turnaround in Browns history, from zero wins in 2017 to seven wins in 2018 and delivered the club's highest winning percentage in divisional play since its formation in 2002.
Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sosna earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2017, Sosna was named to the Front Office Sports "Rising 25 Presented by TeamWork Online," recognizing the top 25 sports business professionals 25 and younger. Additionally, Cincinnati Refined, a Sinclair Broadcast Group partner of Local 12 News, named Sosna "One of 14 Who Will Totally Rock Cincy in 2016" during his previous tenure with UC.
