Starting Five: G Keith Williams • G Mika Adams-Woods • F Trevon Scott • C Chris Vogt • G Jarron Cumberland
The Turning Point: Tulsa cut the Bearcats lead to two points (26-24) on their first play of the second half, but drew no closer as the Bearcats would go on a 17-6 run from there and add a pair of 14-0 runs later in the half to blow open the game and win by 32, tying the largest margin of victory for the Bearcats this season (85-53 over Alabama A&M).
Leaders: Jarron Cumberland led all scorers with 22 points – one shy of his season high – as four Bearcats scored in double-digits on the night. Joining Cumberland in double figures were cousin Jaevin Cumberland (16), Chris Vogt (12) and Trevon Scott (10) while Keith Williams was just shy of the mark with nine. // TEAM NOTES
• Cincinnati improved to 9-6 overall and 2-1 in the American while Tulsa fell to 9-6 overall and 1-1 in league play
• With the victory, Cincinnati is 56-4 in home games played since the start of the 2016-17 season. Additionally, the Bearcats are 27-2 against AAC teams in that time.
• IN THE SERIES: Cincinnati continued its recent dominance in the all-time series with Tulsa by winning its seventh in a row over the Golden Hurricane with tonight's win. Overall, the Bearcats lead the all-time series, 29-12, and are 18-2 when the series is played in the Queen City.
• HALFTIME REPORT: Both teams struggled in the opening stanza as the Bearcats shot just 38% and Tulsa 34% with Cincinnati taking a 26-22 lead at the intermission. The combined scoring of 46 points marked the second-lowest total of the season behind only the 45 points tallied between Ohio State and Cincinnati in the opener (26-19 UC). The 26 points scored also tied for the second-lowest output of the first half this year after being held to 24 by UNLV earlier this year. Jaron Cumberland led all scorers with 10 points in the first half while Martins Igbanu led Tulsa with six.
• Cincinnati's defense forced 15 turnovers, including eight steals, and held Tulsa to just 32.2% shooting as the Golden Hurricane were limited to 44 points on the night. That total is the lowest recorded by TU this season and the fewest allowed by the Bearcats as well, surpassing the 51 allowed to UConn in UC's last home game.
• To get to the lowest point total allowed, the Bearcats limited Tulsa to 22 points in each half of play, the third-lowest totals allowed in a single half this year behind the 19 scored by Ohio State and UConn, both in the first half. The 22 points allowed also are the fewest allowed to a foe in the second half of a game this year, surpassing the 27 scored by UNLV earlier this year.
• The 32-point margin of victory ties the largest recorded by the Bearcats this year. UC downed visiting Alabama A&M, 85-53, earlier this year to win by 32 points as well.
• Cincinnati finished the game 10-of-26 from three, marking the third time this year the Bearcats have made 10+ in a single game behind the 12 made against Vermont and the 11 against Drake. Additionally, the 38.5% deep shooting is the third-highest three-point percentage of the season behind the 63.2% outing against Vermont (12-of-19) and 42.3% against Vermont (11-of-26).
// PLAYER NOTES
• Chris Vogt finished the game with his third double-double of the season after scoring 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Vogt, one of the top shooting-percentage players in the nation, was 6-of-6 from the floor, marking the second time he was perfect from the field after going 4-of-4 against Illinois State earlier this year in his second double-double (13-13).
• Trevon Scott finished the night with 10 points and added nine rebounds, just missing a double-double as well. Scott added a team-high four steals, bettering his previous season-high of three in which he recorded three times this year. That total is one shy of his career high of five, which he recorded January 29, 2017, against USF.
• Along with a strong shooting night, Jarron Cumberland handed out eight assists, bettering his previous season high of six and tying his career best in the process. He has dropped eight dimes in a single game three times previously in his career, most recently in the AAC Tournament last year against SMU (3/15/19).
• Both Cumberlands connected on four three-pointers tonight with Jarron going 4-of-6 and Jaevin 4-of-9. Tonight is the fourth time this year Jaevin has made four or more in one game after connecting on six against Bowling Green and five each against both Drake and Vermont.
• ON THE LIST: Jarron Cumberland led all scorers with 22 points on the night, finishing one point shy of tying his season-best performance (23 vs. Illinois State).
