TicketsCINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati redshirt-senior forward Trevon Scott (Townsend, Ga./McIntosh County Academy) has been named one of 30 candidates for the 2019-20 Senior CLASS Award, an honor given annually to a men's basketball student-athlete who excels both on and off the court.
Scott becomes the third Bearcat in the past four seasons to be named a candidate for the award, joining Troy Caupain (2016-17) and Gary Clark (2017-18).
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Scott is on schedule to earn a master's degree in sports administration in April 2020 after receiving an undergraduate degree in interdisciplinary studies in December 2018. An excellent student, Scott has been selected to the Dean's List (3.4 grade-point average) and Bearcats Honor Roll (3.0 GPA or better) three times and was inducted into the UC Legend of Excellence for achieving the highest cumulative GPA on the team for 2018-19.
A two-year captain on the men's basketball team, Scott continuously pushes his teammates to strive for excellence. UC men's basketball head coach John Brannen identified Scott as a strong leader and encouraged him to attend the Athletes in Action Captains Academy, a summer leadership conference for student-athletes in 2019.
"He encompasses everything you'd want from a coaching standpoint," Brannen said of Scott earlier this season. "He's got character and thinks about others before himself. He's got toughness and embodies our core values. He's a great young man and I'm really excited about him being a leader on the team."
A positive example and strong representative of his team, university and the city of Cincinnati, Scott has made an impactful presence in the Queen City as well. He organized and facilitated sports drills for 50 inner city children at the Cincinnati Boys and Girls Club and played games and inspired youth at Rockdale Elementary School last season. He also has helped the UC men's basketball team volunteer in the local community at places such as Our Daily Bread and the Friar's Club, spending time with children, being a positive role model and stressing the importance of staying in school.
On the basketball court, Scott was named to the 2019 American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team helping the Bearcats claim their second consecutive AAC tournament crown.
This season, the athletic and versatile Scott is averaging 8.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 steals. He was named to the AAC weekly honor roll on Monday after averaging a double-double (12 points and 10 rebounds) in a pair of wins last week and currently ranks among the league leaders for rebounds (tied for fourth at 9.0), steals (11th at 1.6) and minutes played (ninth at 31.4).
Scott and Cincinnati play host to ECU on Sunday at Fifth Third Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on ESPNU and 700 WLW.

The group of 30 candidates will be narrowed to a field of 10 finalists in February. Those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
