Strong Start: The Bearcats put together a strong first half, jumpring out to a 16-3 advantage en route to leading the entire game. UC made nearly 50% of its shots (12 of 26) including four from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, SMU was held to 24% shooting to total 19 points. That marks the second time UC has held an opponent to below 20 points in a half as UConn also had just 19 in the first half at Fifth Third Arena earlier this season.

Leaders: Jarron Cumberland led the team in scoring for the second-straight game and 10th time this season. He finished with a season-high 28 points and nine rebounds to go with four assists. Keith Williams also reached double-digits as he finished with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Chris Vogt contributed nine points and eight rebounds. Trevon Scott tied Cumberland with a game-high nine rebounds.

// TEAM NOTES

  • The victory pushed the Bearcats to 13-7 overall on the season and 6-2 in conference play. SMU falls to 15-5 and 5-3.
  • With the win, Cincinnati improved to 58-4 (.935) in home games played since the start of the 2016-17 season, including a 29-2 (.906) record against AAC teams.
  • SMU, who received votes this week in the AP Poll, now moves behind Cincinnati in the standings. Both teams entered tonight's matchup at 5-2 in AAC play. The two teams were the only AAC teams in action Tuesday night.
  • IN THE SERIES: Cincinnati is now 14-5 in the series with SMU and has won all nine contests played at home. The teams are tied at 3-3 at SMU and 2-2 at neutral sites. The win is the seventh straight for the Bearcats in the series.
  • UC outscored SMU 32-10 in the paint. The Bearcats have now won the battle down low for 10 straight games going back to mid-December.

// PLAYER NOTES

  • Coming off two straight stints on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll, Jarron Cumberland continued to look like the reigning Player of the Year. He finished with a season-high 28 points and season-best nine rebounds. Cumberland also tied his season-best with four 3-pointers.
  • Keith Williams hit double figures for the 13th time in 19 games this season. He had 13 on the night.
