CINCINNATI - For the second time this season, the American Athletic Conference has named Aaron Bienenfeld the AAC Male Track Athlete of the Week following another big run over the weekend at the Indiana Relays. The senior distance standout posted an over 14-second personal-best time in the 3,000m run in Bloomington to move up the program's all-time Top 10 to #2.
// FAST START
In his second race of the indoor season, Bienenfeld upped the distance to the 3,000m event and finished third in the race with a time of 8:01.89, which lowered his personal-best by 14.23 seconds. Just the second UC man to break 8:15 in the indoor event, Bienenfeld is now ranked #3 all-time and just 3.2 seconds off Eric Finan's school record as well. The leader in the American, Bienenfeld also is currently ranked #21 nationally according to the latest updated of the NCAA descending order lists.
Earlier this season, he opened his senior track season as he took part in the mile and was the race's runner-up in a personal-best time of 4:07.17. The third-fastest time in the nation that week according to the USTFCCCA Weekly Top 10, Bienenfeld moved up to #5 in the program's all-time Top 10 by becoming only the sixth UC man to run the indoor mile in under 4:10.
// HONORS HAUL
The award for Bienenfeld is his second track accolade this year to go along with two cross country awards earned earlier this academic year. Bienenfeld was selected as the AAC Male Cross Country Runner of the Week on both September 23 and October 22 following individual race victories for the senior.
// AWARD HISTORY
The award earned is the 60th in program history when including cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field since the AAC began selecting award recipients in the 2013-14 academic year. Bienenfeld's selection also is the 22nd for the men all-time and the sixth indoor track honor received, all of which have come in the past three seasons (three in 2017-18, one last year, two this year).
// NEXT MEET
The Bearcats return to action this weekend as they venture to College Station, Texas, for the 2020 Charlie Thomas Invitational. The two-day meet, which is hosted by Texas A&M, will run Friday and Saturday.
